I was very surprised with Our Last Night and LoveHateHero. Our Last Night put on a great show, the only disappointing part was that the fans didn't seem to enjoy the show too much. But then again, I only caught the last song because of the interview. LoveHateHero did a fantastic job with their set. They had some technical difficulties at first, which cut their set about 10 minutes short. Despite this minor set back, they got the crowd pumped up and had them eating out of the palm of their hand. Sky Eats Airplane was next, the crowd definitely seemed into them and loved to interact with the band. They put on a very satisfactory show. The Chariot stole the show. The crowd was already pumped from three great opening bands, but when The Chariot came on stage, the crowds energy exploded. Kids were rushing the stage and jumped from every which direction. Josh Scogin was amazing and interacted with the crowd for almost every song. The floors opened up to a big mosh pit, and kids were being tossed left and right. At one point, Scogin actually grabbed a crowd surfer and pulled him upon stage to help scream along with the breakdown. I didn't bother staying to watch the headliner, Alesana, I'm not too big of a fan for them.
My associate has the video at his house, and is editing the video of the interview as we speak. When we got to the room for the interview, we just happened to enter during a little voice practice with members from LoveHateHero and Sky Eats Airplane. Luckily, we got some of that on video so that will be posted as well. Look out next week for the video interview on musicemissions.com and on this blog.
A couple months ago, I made a review for a DVD released by a band called The Sound of Animals Fighting. The DVD was called We Must Become The Change We Want To See. I gave it a full five stars out of five stars because it's simply an amazing DVD. Full of action and every moment if filled with something to keep you entertained. The review will be posted right under this entry. Go check it out and let me know what you think.
The concert could be better explained as an extravaganza, because of all the events happening on stage. It's very hard to keep your eyes on one thing at a time. You have painters in the background, three percussionist, usually two vocalists on stage, two guitar players, one bass player, and two interpretive dancers. And on special occassion, the masked men come on stage and walk around the performers, then walk away. So as you can tell, there are already plenty of things going on during the amazing performance by the band. This was expected to be a great release and it was, but there are still a few things that didn't quite sit well with me. I love The Sound of Animals Fighting, but I think that Craig Owens(Chiodos) had a little bit of trouble hamonizing with Anthony Green(Circa Survive) during songs from the album Tiger And The Duke. The one song that happened to stand out the most was Act I: Chasing Suns. But Owens quickly makes up for that when he sings accapella in Un'aria. Skullflower and Horses In The Sky were amazing to be seen performed live, there was so much energy during those songs and all the contributers did exceptionally well.
Anthony Green's vocal range is shown clearly within this video. He does some of the screaming he used to do back when he was the front man of Saosin, and that shows he has not lost any of his touch. He holds his own very well, and could easily steal the spot light on the stage when he is performing. This music DVD, in my opinion, show a message to the viewers. But, the message is very hard to understand if you're watching the DVD just to see a band perform. I think that the band has so many different things going on in one setting, to show that there are so many different styles of artists in the band coming together to form one unified project. You have members of Chiodos, Circa Survive, Finch, RxBandits and more. So maybe thats how they thought they could gain a better understanding from the fans. By showing all of this in their performance, but then again I could be overanalyzing this completely. And maybe they just wanted to do something different with their show to keep the audience focused on them. Well either way, thats how I will look at it when I watch this DVD for a second and/or third time around.
If you are a fan of The Sound of Animals Fighting, then this is a must have for you, because you'll never get the opportunity to see this footage again. Anthony Green said it himself in the movie; 'You are the last ones to ever see this.' If you're not so big into The Sound of Animals Fighting, or you never listened to them and considered picking this DVD up, don't do it. I suggest you listen to some of the songs off of their myspace first or pick up their re-issued Tiger And The Duke album first. If you bought this DVD first, you would just find it to be noise and not know what is going on before your eyes. Or in the worst case, you might have a seizure from all the flashing lights around.
Rating: 5/5

In other news, The Alchemy Index 3 & 4 came out yesterday. Unfortunately, I'm broke and can't go out to buy this album. My father is also in the hospital right now with pneumonia. I hope he gets better. But I won't bore all of you with those details or anything. My friend downloaded the Thrice album a couple days ago and I had the opportunity to listen to it all last night. Let me tell you, if you haven't went out to buy it, do so. So even though I can't publish my editorial reviews on Music Emissions anymore, I figure I will just publish them onto this blog. I'm also going to change those previous friends only album reviews public. There is no need to hide them from anyone, haha. I'm also going to start taking requests for reviews. If there is an album that you would like to see reviewed, I will do my best to go find the album, purchase it and review it for you.
Thats all the news I had planned to reveal. Bayside show is in four days at the 9:30 club and Sky Eats Airplane interview in five days at the Ottobar. My interview is all set up, but I always have room for extra questions, so if you have them let me know.
My mother randomly decided to purchase the game Rockband for me the other day. I had played it before at my apartment in Virginia and decided that I liked it enough that I would purchase it if I had the chance, but my mom beat me to it. I've been rocking out on the drum set ever since. The only problem I have with the game is the drum set, a lot of the time the sensors won't register hits to the game or it will register too many hits into the game. It messes up the experience sometimes, but it's one of those things to get over.
I might be trading in my Verizon LG Voyager if I have another problem with it. It'll be the third time since I got it in December that I've had to take it to the Verizon store for troubleshooting. Since I'm eighteen now, I'm allowed to open up my own account with a phone company. Chances are if this phone does have to go through trouble shooting, I will get a full cash refund for it and purchase a T-Mobile Sidekick III with the plan to go along with it. It would be very handy for my "on-the-go" lifestyle. I just need to get my job back to be able to support making monthly payments.
The Second Sunrise developed a brilliant technique to place together their debut full length self-titled album. The album covers the idea of two different sides of one story happening to the same character. While the first event happens while the main character is concious, the other take the setting of when he is asleep. In other words, the album is split into the day album and the night album. This isn't you regular album, it requires more than one listen to fully understand. The intro track is the prolouge of the album, this is basically explaining whats happening and sets you up for the story to unfold through the tracks. The first part of The Second Sunrise LP actually begins with the track Ontoreacting (Being and Becoming). The story continues through until you reach the track entitled The Second Sunrise. When you reach this track, you enter into the night album. This side of the album goes in reverse order. The first track of the night album just happens to be the last track on the album, titled Oneireacting (A Course of Consciousness). Night and Day meet up with the track The Second Sunrise. This concept defintiely makes for a very complex album.
The sound of The Second Sunrise has easily matured from their EP ... Left Before You Came. The album does not jump between moods, but instead keeps you in a steady pace of emotion. The Second Sunrise has added the use of the keyboard to almost every track on the album, which is a great addition to the band. This is definitely a step up in the right direction for The Second Sunrise. They are a bunch of talented gentlemen whom know how to provide a great concept to draw their listeners into the album. I especially enjoyed the addition of the keyboard and a lot of the guitar solos. The Second Sunrise clearly makes a name for themselves as a progressive rock band with their self titled LP. Over the three years it took to complete this album, it's clear to see that The Second Sunrise could take progressive rock to a new level.
In 2005, The Second Sunrise released ... Left Before You Came as their follow up to Sleep Delivers. The band displays great potential through this EP with each and every track. The hardest thing to figure out about The Second Sunrise is seeing who they compare to. They have a different type of sound, so it was very difficult to add bands to the "Try If You Like" category. While the lyrics paint the scene the music is the medium which you can continue to the next painting.
The seven track EP begins with the song This Is Our Telephone Pole, a hometown favorite in Waldorf, Maryland. The track provides for a great opening as it portrays the musical talent of each and every member. This Is Our Telephone Pole draws you into the album and calls out for you to listen for more suprises. Starving Artists and Specified Action has a completely different tone than This Is Our Telephone Pole, which can change the listeners mood as well. This was either a mistake, or a brilliant move to make. (It was definitely a brilliant move.) The lyrics to this track are what really shine, Danny Welch and Brett Stinson do great jobs with their individual vocals. It Felt Like A Movie, So I Had To Do It is the track that makes for a great to sing along to. This is byfar one of the catchiest tracks on the album. Literary Piano was my own personal favorite track off of this EP. Everything in the band pulls together in this track and fits to perfectly. After you reach the three minute mark the song seems to slow down, but then the sound changes on you and guitars and bass kick in. Pretnse Against Our Receptions is another hometown favorite from The Second Sunrise. "Sleep not to be awake. Breathe only because you have to. Define the strength and reinforce the doubt you thought you'd once loose." Well spoken gentlemen, very well spoken. Once again, the album switches moods on you with the track At Once Heroic and Sick. A song which I'm sure almost everyone could relate to in some way or another. The lyrics speak for themself, "Please reconsider, try doing something for someone else other than yourself." Just those lyrics alone can be placed into a number of situations. The lyrics to this song make it easily to relate to, which raises the rate at which you replay it. The ending track, Come Back To Simpler Times is a great ending track because it completes the EP by using build and release. For over a minute, you hear everything building up to the explosion of music at the ending. A great ending to an even greater EP from The Second Sunrise.
There are barely any flaws, at least none big enough to interfere with the listening experience. Otherwise this is a great EP released upon the world, one I definitely recommend ordering from the internet. You will not be let down.
So there is a show coming up with probably two of my favorite bands to date. Envy on the Coast is opening for Thursday. I've seen Thursday so many times in the past, and each time I see them, their live show just gets better and better. They put on a simply amazing show and it's incredible how alive you feel when you are in the crowd. Envy on the Coast, I just want to see them really badly. The show is on April 25th, in Lancaster, PA. I live in St. Mary's City, Maryland, so thats about a 5 hour drive to get to the show. I honestly think it would be worth it. The only problem about that is, the next day is my girlfriends prom. She just happens to live in Pennsylvania as well, about thirty minutes from the venue. If i drove the maximum ten hours to get to the show and back, the next morning I have to drive 4 hours to get to the hotel in pennsylvania and get ready for her prom. All very tiring, trust me. I want to just stay up there for the show and not have to come back, but then my parents would have to drive a second car, which would be a complete waste of gas. So chances are, I will not be attending the show. But I'm wondering if maybe my parents and I can head up a day early on the 25th instead of the 26th so I can still make it to the show and prom without being completely tired. It's a lot to plan around, and I'm still trying to figure out how to work this out. And I have an interview lined up with Thursday for the next time they are in Maryland. I could just knock that out when I go to Pennsylvania, but I would have to pick up John Berry and take him home within the same day. So many factors to think about. It's too much to think about right now, I think my head is going to explode. Hahaha. Go listen to Envy on the Coast.
I had plans of traveling up to Towson, Maryland today to hang out with my friend Nate. I was just going to stay there the weekend and hang with him and the rest of the friends I have up there. But something happened where my dad was diagnosed as having pneumonia, so I canceled the trip and came back home. You see, about ten years ago, my father was diagnosed with lung cancer and was not expected to live. But thanks to the doctors and the chemo therapy, he was able to live as long as he has now. The only consequence is that his immune system has lowered in strength and he had one of his lungs removed making it practically impossible to be as active as he once was. So now whenever he gets sick, it's about five times worse than it actually should be. This makes any kind of sickness he has scary as
I finished questions for Bayside and The Fall of Troy. I'm still waiting on the word if we have the chance to interview Circa Survive or not. But if we do get that opportunity, I will be more than ready. I still need more questions for Sky Eats Airplane, Foxy Shazaam, and only a few more for Thrice. I should be done with it within the next couple of days. First due date is April 21st. I'm more then excited for this.
"My God, What a world you love"
I'm not a very religious type of guy, honestly, I'm not even sure what I truly believe in. Something about those lyrics speak to me. From what I have been told about God and what I have studied myself, I've come to the conclusion that God loves everyone. Hooray for us. But I want to know why God loves all of the people, there are some absolutely disgusting and evil people on this world. Some that I wouldn't find suitable of having the chance of being loved by some type of greater power. It's not my job to pass down judgment upon others. I suppose thats a sin. So thats why I want that on my wrist. My God, what a world you love. Thats what I think about every time I think about how that higher power can love everyone.
"Tell me I'm only dreaming. Tell me he's just sleeping. When morning comes we'll both wake up to the sun, and love that's enough to keep our friends alive."
These lyrics are from the song Timothy, off the new album Come Now Sleep. As I was discussing with a friend earlier today, I've had to deal with a lot of loss throughout my life. All of which I had hard times dealing with. I would suffer from denial and anger. I never really had closure with all of the people of whom I had lost. Every time someone close to me passed away, it felt like a dream. It still does. I wish it could be that they were only sleeping. In my heart and through these lyrics, I know that the people I have lost will always be close to me through the love that I have for them. Thats enough to keep them alive.
So there you have it, the lyrics I want on my wrists and the reasons behind those lyrics. I hope you all enjoyed reading about it. I should probably get some sleep, I have a lot of work to do tomorrow. I hope to get it all done quite early.
I should probably be getting dressed so I can go to the college now. I don't want to wait too long or else the person I have to talk to won't be there.
I plan to have purchased the album within the next couple of days, and when that day comes I also plan to have a very descriptive album review ready for it. The album review will appear here on a friends only post, and on music emissions.
